One plus of having a lot of particulate matter in the air, the only one I can think of actually, is the deep reds and oranges you can get in your sunset shots. The Kern River drains a large swath of the southern Sierra Nevada, cutting a deep canyon before emerging and draining into the desert sands, landlocked by the surrounding mountains. The river flows by and feeds Lake Ming, a popular boating and fishing lake frequented by birds of many kinds.
These Australian Pelicans were interesting visitors. Sorry, no telephoto for the birds; had to stick with the big picture.
